Infinifactory Coming to PS4 on December 22nd

Earlier this year we revealed that we were bringing Infinifactory to PS4. I’m excited to announce that Infinifactory will be launching on PlayStation Store tomorrow! The game will be available for $24.99, and includes all of the bonus content developed while the game was in Early Access. And, if you’re a PS Plus member like me, you’ll enjoy a 20% discount if you grab the game in the first week!

Infinifactory

One of the most important things to know about Infinifactory is that it’s not just a puzzle game — it’s an open-ended puzzle game. Unlike a typical puzzle game, where each puzzle has a single solution that you’re trying to uncover, every puzzle in Infinifactory has countless solutions, each with different strengths and weaknesses.

Infinifactory is the most ambitious game we’ve made to date, so I’m pleased that we’re able to bring it to PS4 for you to enjoy!

Infinifactory

A Note from 22nd Century Toys:

Hi there, Infinifactory fans! 22nd Century Toys is proud to have helped with the PS4 version and we are excited that you’ll be able to play the game over the upcoming holidays.

When we started on the project one thing became quickly apparent: this is a very unique video game. We’ve played and enjoyed puzzle games before, but nothing that gives you so much (dare we say, infinite) variety in how to solve a puzzle.

The quirky, humorous, sci-fi story that ties all the puzzles together is a blast. And we love the chilled-out electronic soundtrack composed by Matthew S Burns.

Working on Infinifactory was so much fun we’d have to remind ourselves that our job was making sure the game ran on PS4 and not finding new or creative ways to solve a certain puzzle.

Infinifactory

The folks at Zachtronics were all around cool people to work with and we’d like to thank them for their vision of the game. And we’d like to thank Sony for supporting such a great indie-developed product on PS4.

We can’t wait to see all the cool videos players share with each other. We’re expecting a lot of unique and interesting approaches to building factories. Have fun!

These are the best hot springs for cozying up this ski season

Hot springs are Mother Nature’s gift to the mountains. Sure, Colorado is graced with the Rockies and beautiful scenery, but sometimes we want to kick off the hiking boots and skis and relax in nature’s natural hot tubs. Not only are the springs a haven for relaxation, some believe that hot springs have a medicinal value. Pack your bathing suit (or not) and take a day hike out to some of these hot springs. From Arkansas to California, these natural baths will have you skipping the slopes this ski season!

Big Bend National Park is where the dedicated hikers come to relax. The Texas park has Hot Springs that are not accessible by car. That’s right, you’ll need an excuse (as if you need one) to strap on your hiking boots and venture to the springs. It’s only about a mile loop, which is manageable for a park the size of Rhode Island! You won’t be disappointed with the scenery either. Famous for containing a mountain range of its own, Big Bend is a breathtaking medley of desert geography, canyons, and rocky plateaus. It’s almost as famous for day hiking as it is for night hikes, due to its reputation as one of the darkest and best stargazing spots in North America. Don’t go too far though… this part of Texas is in a drought and you’re limited to small amounts of water.

National parks are the winners when it comes to a collection of killer spas—who knew? Nicknamed “The American Spa,” Hot Springs National Park in Arkansas is the coolest and weirdest spring. You can actually get into a tub filled with spring water. If it sounds too good to be true, trust JFK, Cy Young, Al Capone, or Babe Ruth—just a few of the greats to grace these natural springs. If you’re up for the full spa treatment, there’s a cool-down shower, a Swedish massage, heat therapy, and even a pool. And make sure you go up to the top of the Hot Springs Mountain Tower that overlooks the entire park, you’ll be amazed by the views; 47 pools bubbling at 143 degrees.

We can’t talk about hot springs without mentioning Colorado and the umpteen mountainous springs they have. Conundrum Hot Springs rewards hikers with several pools fed by plastic pipes to each spring. Marvel at the scenery, (because what part of Colorado isn’t gorgeous?) in a natural infinity pool heated by the earth’s crust.

And since the best form of relaxation can be keeping the kids occupied, check out the Old Town Hot Springs. This historic spring site doesn’t look like your average historic landmark. Think natural hot springs—waterpark style. It’s got climbing walls, eight large pools, and some massive slides—a 230-foot waterslide to be exact. And the best part in our opinion? There’s a coffee shop onsite! There are few things better than enjoying the winter weather, while sipping a latte, in a pool. We’re in!

Finally, for the Californian snowbirds, the Travertine Springs in Bridgeport, CA offer natural relaxation, 24 hours a day, for free. East of Yosemite and south of Reno, they’re on the way to some well-traveled natural wonders, but these pools are off the beaten path. Get ahead of the game with us and mark your calendar to enjoy the next meteor shower in one of the 105-degree natural tubs.

Located on a cliff 150 feet above the river, Umpqua Hot Springs in the Umpqua National Forest is one of the coolest natural springs in the country. The hike to the springs is short but steep (snowshoes help if you're headed there in the winter) and once you reach your destination, you have several cascading pools of steamy mineral water to enjoy! The warmest one is at the top, near the source of the water, and the coolest one is near the river. And, best of all, you can soak in the tub's 100-115 degree water and enjoy the view of Surprise Falls across the way at the same time!

Whether you’re bringing the kids somewhere on winter break or need a place to relax after a day on the slopes, escape the winter blues and hop in one of these hot springs.

Want more winter fun to enjoy with your friends? Check out these other adventures!

Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition Out Tuesday on PS4, Vita

Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition is coming to PS4 and PS Vita on October 13th! For its console release, Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition has been overhauled technically to provide the best experience yet. I’m thrilled to be releasing this narrative-focused, fairly personal game on PlayStation, and to mark the occasion I wanted to share some of the motivation and design behind this project.

Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition on PS4

Three Fourths Home began development two years before I wrote a single line of code for the game, before I’d ever made a sprite of a car or a cornstalk. Before I’d considered moving back to Nebraska, having lived between Wisconsin and Minnesota since 2008. Before I’d even made a game.

Three Fourths Home didn’t have the most typical pre-production cycle, to say the least. I tend to think of Three Fourths Home’s earliest development having roots in the rough sketches and ridiculous plans that led to [out], my first game. Unsurprisingly, the plans for that game were far too ambitious, and I gave up for a year before using the idea to make an HTML-based text game.

The seeds of Three Fourths Home were sown sometime during that development. I knew that I could tell a story with text – I’d grown up playing games like Final Fantasy, Metal Gear, and Monkey Island, so I sort of expect I default to “text as story” (perhaps) more often than I should when I think of game narratives – but I also wanted to tell a story with text that connected with a player not only because they were choosing what to say; I wanted players to have a physical connection to the forward momentum of the story itself.

I wanted players to feel the inevitability of the events of the story because they were the ones driving it forward.

Three Fourths Home: Extended Edition on PS4

I made a few games and prototypes between [out] and Three Fourths Home. They followed a progression of themes: [out] focused on coming out, Letters to Babylon dealt with the possible aftermath. I was working on a follow-up to Letters to Babylon when I had all of my development work stolen. My computer, hard drive, notes, code – gone. Shortly after, I found myself in a situation that forced me to move back to Nebraska, where I’d graduated from high school and promptly moved away from six years prior.

Starting from scratch, in a place I’d never planned on returning to, I set about making a new game that continued on with some of the themes that were explored in my previous games. With my own circumstances staring me in the face, I decided to draw from them. I wrote Three Fourths Home, starting with Ben’s story, but still needed a way to tie the player to the forward momentum of the story.

Making players drive a car was perhaps the most literal interpretation, but it worked. The story in Three Fourths Home will not progress unless you are pressing the pedal, making the protagonist Kelly barrel forward to the inevitability of the game’s conclusion. You can’t avoid the forward progression. Sure, you can dawdle and pretend that something will happen if you sit and wait, but it’s just biding time until the inevitable.

Until you realize that in the years you’ve been gone, Nebraska has changed. Your family has changed. It’s not the way you left it, and you’re not sure how to deal with it.

And above it all, disaster sits and waits to descend. A ruinous thing that will expose the rot eating away at everything you’d considered steadfast and reliable.

Once you’re Three Fourths Home.

Are you brave enough to drive Florida's I-4, AKA "The Dead Zone"?

The port city of Sanford, Florida was established in 1877. Today, Sanford features a bustling downtown with antique shops, art galleries, a zoo, a farmers market every Saturday, and even a Soapbox Derby. However, the history of this Central Floridian city is actually quite less cosmopolitan. The original inhabitants were the Mayaca (AKA Jojoro) native American tribe, who were all but decimated upon contact with Europeans, by war and disease. After Florida became an official U.S. state, following the Seminole Wars, many Swedish indentured servants were brought to the area. It was these Swedes who did virtually all of the hard labor to settle the land and grow the area into becoming the world's leading producer of oranges. About ten years after the colony was established a horrifying fire broke out that destroyed much of the settlement. This was followed by a terrible epidemic of Yellow Fever and an historic freeze that ruined the area's citrus industry at the time.

However, Sanford rebounded at the turn of the century, and while industry grew, the population increased and the community settled into a new, prosperous era of contentment. But, some spooky things began to occur around the middle of the 20th century, mostly around the main highway that connects Tampa with Daytona. You've probably driven Interstate-4 if you've traveled around Central Florida.

Local News 6 covering the unexplained phenomena in the area:

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd">

Unfortunately, this bit of transportation infrastructure has a bit of a dubious past. You see, it was built on the site of the Swedish settlement. After the Yellow Fever epidemic, all that remained of the pioneering site was an abandoned farmhouse and several family graves (of those who perished during the epidemic). Did that halt construction of the I-4? Nope.

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40/loose.dtd">

Way back in the late 1800s when the Department of Agriculture along with the Governor of Florida established the ‘Florida Land and Colonization Company', its puprose was to populate the state with workers. This is how the tiny colony of Swedes came to settle the area initially. It was called Saint Joseph’s Colony, and it was a religious settlement led by Father Felix Prosper Swembergh. However, when Father Swembergh was sent to Tampa he contracted Yellow Fever and died. Soon after the families of St. Joseph's Colony also contracted the disease: "As Father Swembergh was dead, there was no one to give the last rites to the stricken, and the four victims were quickly buried without any formal ceremony. No family gatherings and no absolution." (PSI Researcher)

With no colonists left to tend the land, it was soon absorbed by Lake Monroe township:

...[B]y the early 1900s, a farmer by the name of Al Hawkins, his wife and family bought a large portion of the colony’s land. Quickly, the farmer started clearing the now overgrown fields of the old colony for orange groves and celery fields. While clearing the dead center of the field, the farmer found four small graves, evident by four small rotting wood crosses, eerily reaching out of the tall weeds and thickets. Weathered and falling apart, the wooden markers meant honor to the farmer, and respectfully decided to do his farming around the graves instead of plowing over them. “The Field of the Dead” as it became known, remained in its peaceful spot for years, until the farmer died in 1939. (PSI Researcher)

Then in the 1950s a super highway was proposed that would cut through the area. The farmer's widow was convinced by Walt Disney's promise of bringing new life to the area with his construction of Walt Disney World. So, she sold the land and the construction of Interstate 4 began. The land surveyors made the executive decision that the graves were so old that they "felt it was best, as well as beneficial to construction and time issues to ignore the graves and build over them." In fact, one engineer is reported to have said "“It’s not an ancient Indian burial ground, they’re just a few old bones:"

According to the legend, the very day the road engineers began plowing over the graves, filling them with dirt in order to elevate the land for construction, one of Florida’s most deadly Hurricanes crossed the state. A name that may still strike fear into the minds of those who survived it, Hurricane Donna caused millions of dollars in damage to many areas of central Florida, and was responsible for many lives lost, not to mention the disruption of further road construction for several months afterwards. Some believe that when the surveyors disrupted the graves, a bad omen took place; the hurricane and the curse of I-4 had begun.  (PSI Researcher)

Florida_I-4

Today, there are rumors and legends of "pioneer ghosts standing by the busy highway at night, ghostly voices coming over radios, CBs and cell phones and radio stations going dead while crossing the grave site..." It's been referred to as the "Dead Zone," and it's believed to be one of the most haunted highways in America. The weirdness begins at the southern side of the bridge as it crosses over St. Johns River, just west of modern-day Sanford, for about a quarter of a mile"

This mystery has baffled many because there are no radio or cell phone antennas nearby, nor any microwave emitters from local weather or television stations in the area, so logical explanations are hard to find for these electrical disruptions. There are also an unusually high number of traffic accidents on this section of road, accidents that are well recorded with the Florida Highway Patrol. Although the traffic accidents and fatalities are bad enough, many people have claimed that other strange and sometimes frightening events have taken place while crossing this section of road. One of the most common complaints are that cell phones will sometimes cease to function properly when crossing the bridge, as well as car radios going static, or going silent all together. (PSI Researcher)

And that's not even the spookiest stuff that's been reported by drivers:

Other complaints include hearing voices crackling over the static of the radios, which are said to sound like a man’s voice calling out “Who’s there?” or “Why?” Sometimes, when truckers cross the bridge, they hear the same thing echoing over their CBs, and when a trucker answers back to what he thinks to be just another driver on the road, he’ll get no response. On occasion, some have heard what sounds like the giggling of two or more girls playing in the distance, as if from a playground, eerily echoing over the radio. Some have even claimed to have seen ghostly hitchhikers on the eastbound side of I-4, as well as dark shapes of people walking on the banks of the road near the river. (PSI Researcher)

i-4-ghost-98156390kx1
PSI Researcher

According to News 13:

The actual grave site is said to be underneath I-4, in one of the eastbound lanes just before the south end of the St. Johns River Bridge. [Charlie] Carlson [author of Weird Florida] claims that between 1995 and 1997, there were 44 crashes that injured 65 people on this stretch of I-4. Add those numbers together, and you get 109 — the exact age of the graves as of 1996. Coincidence? While the verdict is still out whether the spirits of disturbed graves have caused several bad accidents on I-4, another rumor is that the spirit energy causes electronic equipment to malfunction and your cell phone to lose reception.

What say you? Have you dared venture across the St. Johns River Bridge? Experienced any spooky, unexplainable phenomena? Share your stories in the comments!
